Its was a beautiful day outside, the sun was shining with a nice steady breeze. the perfect day for renewable energy.
In Winnebago today, Siouxlanders got to take a tour of one of Nebraska’s largest renewable energy projects. Starting in 2017 Ho-Chunk Inc and the Winnebago Tribe have installed 1,000 solar panels and several wind turbines on the reservation, in total the project costing over $700,000 to build, funded partially by federal grants.
They say its all apart of being good stewards of the land.
“Winnebago is a community that’s very much about sustainability and sufficiency, being good stewards of the air, the water and the earth honors the heritage of the Winnebago people and also works toward our future goals of economic self-sufficiency”
The tribe also plans to expand the project in the coming years.
