Samsung Heavy Industries has developed a lithium-ion battery power system for ships.
The system, jointly developed with local battery manufacturer Samsung SDI, has won type approval from classification society DVL-GL.
The lithium-ion battery system is designed to control power generators on ships of all sizes.
The South Korea yard said in a release it is also working with Finnish power equipment maker Wartsila to develop marine energy storage systems as the race between the world’s top shipbuilders to build greener vessels intensifies.
