Fred Olsen Windcarrier jack-up vessel Bold Tern has installed the last turbine at Orsted’s 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea ahead of schedule.
The wind farm, which comprises 56 MHI Vestas V164-8.0MW machines, delivered first power last month and is scheduled for full commissioning next year.
Orsted offshore manager James Gibbs said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the crew from Fred Olsen Windcarrier. Bold Tern has performed very well installing the 8MW turbines.
“The combination of a competent and proactive crew and an experienced installation team from MHI Vestas has led to fast installation times throughout the project. We are very satisfied with the whole team which is reflected in the project finishing ahead of schedule.”
Fred Olsen Windcarrier project manager Eskil Roset said: “We have worked closely with our client Orsted and with the installation contractor MHI Vestas to safely and efficiently complete installation. Installations have been fast and the whole project was completed ahead of schedule.”
MHI Vestas chief operations officer Flemming Ougaard said: “With the last V164-8.0MW turbine now installed at Borkum Riffgrund 2, we look forward to the commissioning phase and to the future of offshore wind energy in Germany.”
Fred Olsen company Global Wind Service was also involved in the turbine installation work.
