On Thursday, July 26th at 10AM, we will celebrate the release of the Radix Center’s solar-powered floating island, a floating constructed wetland designed to clean up combined sewer overflows in the Hudson River using living plants and beneficial bacteria.
Educational Director Scott Kellogg joined CBS 6 Sunday morning to talk about the island and the Radix Center.
The Radix Center gives children and adults a hands on educational experience to understand the main environmental issues we face today.

Floating Island Release Party!
On Thursday, July 26th at 10AM, we will celebrate the release of the Radix Center’s solar-powered floating island – a floating constructed wetland designed to clean up combined sewer overflows in the Hudson River using living plants and beneficial bacteria.
Through a combination of renewable energies and ecological design practices, the floating island demonstrates how it is possible to address pollution in our city with techniques that are sustainable, affordable, equitable, and educational. The construction of the floating island has been made possible through an Environmental Benefit Project grant from the Albany Water Board, and is a collaborative research effort between The Radix Center and students and professors from RPI, SUNY School of Public Health, Siena,and Skidmore Colleges.
The celebration will take place in Island Creek Park in Albany’s South End,near the intersection of Church and Broadway Streets. Canoes and kayaks will be available for close-up tours of the island.
