A project to produce medals for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics from precious metals contained in used mobile phones and small consumer electronics is proceeding well.
This will mark the first time that all the medals for the games will be manufactured from recycled metals.
At a factory of an affiliated company of NTT Docomo Inc. in Ishikawa Prefecture, substances containing precious metals are skillfully removed from mobile phones, digital cameras and video game consoles and are processed into chips.
