Helicopter operators can soon have access to the newest technology in main battery solutions thanks to an innovative development program.
Key features include ultra lightweight, less maintenance and overall reduced operating costs over the battery’s lifecycle compared with traditional lead acid and Ni-Cad batteries.
A simplified two-year maintenance regimen is an advantage in comparison to the typical six-month OEM battery.
“Lithium-Ion technology is the next generation of aircraft batteries,” stated Adam Boyko, EuroTec’s avionics and design manager. “The batteries are more powerful, safer and feature smart pack technology which senses voltage, current, temperature and incorporates a health monitoring system.”
True Blue Power batteries also provide increased power during start sequences, with higher nominal output voltage.
Integrated heating technology enhances cold weather starting reliability, and intelligent battery monitoring is accomplished with a cockpit indication feature.
“Partnering our design engineers with True Blue Power’s responsive and dynamic design group has greatly streamlined the overall certification process,” added EuroTec’s president, Chad Decker. “They have been very receptive and supportive regarding the various helicopter airframe options we have proposed.”
EuroTec also reports being in the final design and development phase of integrating high-capacity True Blue Power TB44 Advanced Lithium-Ion Batteries into the Airbus H135 series of helicopters.
