A maker of energy storage systems in the region has partnered with a major recreational vehicle brand to develop a generator-free RV.
Holland-based Volta Power Systems said this spring it is supplying its lithium-ion storage system for Winnebago’s 2019 Travato Class B RV.
The system will come standard on the Travato 59GL and 59KL models.
The system supplies up to 30 amps with nearly 10,000 Wh of capacity, enough to run standard appliances for several hours or overnight. The system charges while driving, idling, connected to shore or through a high-efficiency MPPT solar charger. A 200-W solar panel comes standard.
“Billions of dollars and years of lessons learned in the automotive industry have produced a truly amazing energy storage technology,” said Jack Johnson, co-founder, Volta Power Systems. “It’s exciting to see what it can do for the RV industry. Winnebago is setting a new industry standard with the Travato.”
Winnebago has branded the 2019 Travato as part of its growing environmentally conscious approach to RV camping.
Volta’s system aims to reduce greenhouse emissions and eliminate the danger of generator carbon monoxide on people and pets.
“Today’s buyers want total freedom from shore power and the ability to camp anywhere with minimum impact on the environment,” said Russ Garfin, product manager, Winnebago. “We had been looking for the right technology to meet our high standards for quality and safety, and a relationship with Volta makes great sense.”
The 2019 Travato Class B RV is scheduled to roll into dealers’ lots this summer.
