The federal government is providing $3 million to study battery storage research at Binghamton University.
The funding comes through the Department of Energy’s Energy Frontier Research Centers program.
The grant will enable Professor Stanley Whittingham, the inventor of the lithium-ion battery, to continue his research on battery systems and energy storage.
Whittingham and his colleagues will study the chemical reactions in energy storage materials to develop new materials that are cheaper, environmentally friendly and can store more than current technology.
